Introduction |
What characterizes this rabbit, it is its fur. It is equipped with long hairs on all the body but also on the level of the head. The hair must measure 5-6 cm length. It is the presence of long hairs besides on the head which differentiates it from the Angora rabbit(Fuzzy Lop) or from Cashmère. Some Teddys can even have the hair longer than the Angora rabbit. On a purely comparative basis, it is in the cunicole world what the Persan one is with the cat-like gente. One meets it in all the colors of the traditional dwarf rabbit.

Maintenance |
Within sight of such a fur, it will be necessary to take care of it. Two ways are offered to you: brushing: 2 brushings per week in order to eliminate the dead hairs and to prevent the formation of nodes. - depilation: 2 depilations per annum; about February/March and August/September. For my part, I prefer to depilate. The hair is again coloured and well shining at the time of pushes back. The choice of the litter seems very important to me. The chips are to be proscribed with this kind of fur. A natural litter for cat containing wood (Chatoune for example) is appropriate completely or of the litter of Hemp (Aubiose for example)

Standard |
This breed is very recent. The breeding of the Teddy rabbit is not highly developed in Belgium and France at this time. Moreover, this race is not recognized yet officially. And the Teddy rabbit thus does not have his standard. In Germany, on the other hand, the race is into full essort. One can find very beautiful subjects there, of homogeneous quality. Its morphology is copied there on the standard of the dwarf rabbit. But there either, the race is not officialized.

Genetics |
The gene “teddy” or “wolly” is a recessive gene.
That means that it is necessary to be homozygote (ww) so that the gene is expressed, if not it hides (Ww), as it is the case at many Lionhead lops.
Examples of combinations:
- -1 relative teddy X 1 relative teddy will give only teddys
tt X tt - > 100% tt
-
-1 relative teddy X 1 relative not teddy homozygote will give only nonteddys BUT all will be carrying the gene (hétérozygote)
tt X TT - > 100% Tt
-
-1 relative teddy X 1 relative not teddy hétérozygote will give as many teddys that of nonteddys (hétérozygote)
tt X Tt - > 50% tt and 50% Tt
-
-1 relative not teddy hétérozygote X 1 relative not teddy hétérozygote will give at the same time nonteddys homozygotes, nonteddys carrying gene and teddys
Tt X Tt - > 25% TT, 50% Tt and 25% tt
